How to use Basic BBQ Seasoning Mix as a Dry Rub

This basic BBQ Seasoning Mix is a great way to get ready for grilling season.

Did you know that rubbing your meat with this basic seasoning and allowing it to sit for a bit (30 min to over night) will make a huge difference.

You want to massage the rub in by hand before grilling; the more time it has to sit on the meat the more the flavors will sink in. If you want a savory, crispy crust make sure your cooking surface is really hot.

Lower the grilling grate as close to the coals as possible. Hardwood charcoal creates a hotter fire, but wood chips can be sprinkled over coals to increase temperature.

You want to use dry rubs on dishes like ribs, steaks, pork chops or anything that cooks quickly.

How to use Basic BBQ Seasoning Mix as a Wet Rub

To create a wet rub you need to add a few tablespoons of the BBQ Seasoning Mix to about 2/3 cup of tomato sauce and 1/3 cup apple cider vinegar (you can also use balsamic).

Smother the meat in your wet rub. If time permits, wrap it in plastic and let it sit in the fridge for an hour before grilling.

A thick paste will absorb the flavor of your grill, and smoking or slow cooking will enable the wet rub to form a firm, dark outer layer while moisture, aroma, and flavor are soaked up by the meat.
